Coen Brothers Film Festival, Jazz at Noon
Continue During Summer at UW-Eau Claire
EAU CLAIRE - After a one-day hiatus on Monday, July 5, for the Independence Day holiday, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Summer Session Programs will resume with a screening of the Coen brothers' "The Hudsucker Proxy" on Tuesday and Thursday, July 6 and 8.
The 1994 film (112 minutes, rated PG-13) will be presented at noon and 7 p.m. in Davies Theatre. Admission is free.
Filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen channeled the spirit of Preston Sturges and Frank Capra in this comedy about a guileless mailroom worker (Tim Robbins) thrust into the presidency of a major company in a nefarious attempt to discredit the firm. Paul Newman and Jennifer Jason Leigh co-star. The New York Times called the film "a shrewd comic valentine to the kind of movies they don't make anymore. It is also the Coens' funniest, most accessible film since the dark comedy 'Raising Arizona.'"
At noon Wednesday and Thursday, July 7 and 8, a Jazz at Noon concert will take place on the Central Campus Mall (rain: The Cabin, Davies Center). A variety of grilled lunch items will be sold.
Summer Session Programs continue through Aug. 5. A complete schedule is available from the Activities and Programs office, Davies Center 133, (715) 836-4833, and on the Web.
