UW-Eau Claire Names J. Scott Kilgallon
Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

 MAILED:  June 7, 2004

EAU CLAIRE - J. Scott Kilgallon has been hired as the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Interim Provost Steve Tallant announced today.

Kilgallon will assume the director responsibilities July 1, replacing Interim Athletic Director Tim Petermann. Petermann will return to his position as assistant to the athletic director and director of sports information.

For the last seven years, Kilgallon has been the director of athletics at Southern Vermont College, as well as the men's and women's cross country/track coach.

"Mr. Kilgallon has the dynamic leadership skills and the experience necessary to continue moving our athletics program forward," Tallant said. "And most importantly, he shares UW-Eau Claire's strong commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy emphasizing high-level competition among student-athletes."

As the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Kilgallon will lead UW-Eau Claire's 20-sport athletics program. He'll provide leadership and planning for a competitive athletics program; help promote athletics in the campus and Eau Claire communities; supervise coaches and staff; administer budgets; and oversee fund raising activities for athletics.

"UW-Eau Claire's intercollegiate athletics program is well known and highly respected," Kilgallon said. "I'm looking forward to working with the athletes, coaches and alumni, as well as the greater Eau Claire community, as we carry on this tradition of excellence."

During Kilgallon's seven years at Southern Vermont College, the school's athletics program was elevated to active membership with the NCAA, was accepted into The Great Northeast Athletic Conference and added three intercollegiate sports.

"With his involvement in all facets of Southern Vermont College's athletic program - from administrative duties to recruiting to coaching and fund-raising - he has proven that he knows how to run a top-notch, successful program," said Dr. William Harms, associate vice chancellor of student services. "We're glad he is bringing his talents and visions to UW-Eau Claire."

As Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Kilgallon will report to Harms.

Prior to joining Southern Vermont College, Kilgallon worked in the private sector in Massachusetts.

A native of Massachusetts, Kilgallon earned his master's degree in management from Lesley University in Massachusetts and his bachelor's degree in industrial technology/management from Central Connecticut State University.
