Senior Dance Recital
Set for May 11

 MAILED:  May 6, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student, Joseph Rand, Circle Pines, Minn., will perform his senior dance recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The program will include seven dances and several vocal performances.

The performance stems from Rand’s topical minor, “Movement for Musicians,” which was developed with the help of Dr. Toni Poll-Sorensen, professor of dance in the department of music and theater arts. The goal of the topical minor is to provide students with an experience that suits their career goals, and Rand, a communication major, said it was logical for him to combine the two things in life in which he finds solace.

The first piece of the recital, “Temperature’s Writhing,” choreographed by Rand and senior Sara Looby, Maple Grove, Minn., will be performed by 14 dancers to “Blue Jean Baby Queen” by David Essex. The second piece, “Brothers,” was choreographed and will be performed by Rand and junior Tommy Hudock, Green Bay, to the song “Sisters” by the Andrews Sisters. The Innocent men will sing “The Longest Time” and “This is the Night” and Rand, a tenor, will give vocal performances of “Die Forelle,” “Der Neugierige” and “Mein!” by Franz Schubert. “A Guiding Hand,” choreographed by Rand, will be performed by Rand and his sister Ashley Rand, Circle Pines, Minn., to the song “Everybody’s Free,” as arranged by Rand.

Following intermission, “In the Zone,” choreographed by former Concert Dance Company member Becky Blom, will be performed by eight dancers to “Britney Spears Medley” by Britney Spears. “Invocation,” was choreographed by Rand and will be performed by Molly Mac Neil, one of Rand’s students from Lino Lakes, Minn., to the song “Way Beyond the Blue” by Eva Cassidy. Rand also will sing “Tu Lo Sai” by Giuseppe Torelli, “Beau Soir” by Claude Debussy and “The Prayer” by Dan Coates. Next, “Just Playin’ Around,” was choreographed and will be performed by Rand and senior Anna Lisa Bjorklund, Lindstrom, Minn., to the song “Down With Love.” “She’s Got a Way and “The Scientist,” will be sung by The Innocent Men. The final piece of the recital, “My Way,” was choreographed and will be performed by Rand.

There will be a reception after the performance. The performance is free and open to the public.
