EAU CLAIRE — Minneapolis folk rock musician Ellis will present three free concerts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire May 6-8. Her shows will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in The Cabin of Davies Center.
Four-time winner of the Reader’s Choice award of Best Musician in the Twin Cities (Lavender Magazine), Ellis continues to win fans nationally with her charismatic stage presence, powerful performances and playful sense of humor. A Texas native, she moved to Minnesota in 1994 and has earned a devoted following. She tours full time, performing more than 150 concerts a year. At her solo concerts in The Cabin she will preview songs from her upcoming live CD.
Ellis has a total of six full-length CDs to her credit — four solo and two with her former band Bobby Llama. When the possibility of a major label record deal surfaced after the band won Sam Goody/Musicland’s “Best Unsigned Band in America” competition in 2000, Ellis was determined to remain an independent artist. She runs her own independent record company and recently coordinated an all-benefit compilation CD of women’s voices for peace.
Described as “a sobering work of folk rock beauty” (Local Planet), her recently released solo album, “Tigers Above, Tigers Below,” has received rave reviews and significant airtime on radio stations across the country. Music critics acknowledge her powerful songwriting and performance skills.
The show is open to all ages. Pop, domestic and imported beer, wine coolers and popcorn will be sold; proof of age is required for alcohol purchases.
The Cabin program is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
