UW-Eau Claire Symphonic Choir
To Perform on Mother’s Day

 MAILED:  April 28, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphonic Choir, under the direction of Dr. Alan Rieck, assistant professor of music, will perform a concert with the University Symphony Orchestra, directed by Nobuyoshi Yasuda, at 2 p.m. on Mother’s Day — Sunday, May 9 — in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

“The music featured in this program is some of the greatest from opera,” said Rieck. “The audience will recognize many of the selections.”

The first part of the program will open with the Overture to Guiseppe Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino,” followed by four selections from Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” (The Magic Flute), featuring faculty members Dr. Daniel Newman, Dr. Mitra Sadeghpour, Dr. Kathryn Proctor Duax and Dr. Robert Knight, as well as soprano Amanda Depons, a senior from New Berlin.

The second part of the program will feature all music by Verdi, including “Brindisi” from “La Traviata,” featuring Newman and Sadeghpour performing with the chorus; the “Witches Chorus” from “Macbeth”; the “Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves” from “Nabucco”; and the “Anvil Chorus” from “Il Trovatore.”

Following an intermission, the program will feature six selections from Georges Bizet’s “Carmen.” Various soloists and performers again will be featured, including Newman, Sadeghpour, Proctor Duax, Knight and senior Christine Schweikert, Coon Rapids, Minn.

After the concert there will be a reception sponsored by the Friends of Music.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $4.75 for the general public; $3.75 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.25 for students with a university ID.
