UW-Eau Claire University Theatre
To Present ‘The Mound Builders’

 MAILED:  April 28, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s University Theatre production of Lanford Wilson’s “The Mound Builders,” directed by Dr. Terry Allen, professor of music and theatre arts, will open at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 6, in the Kjer Theatre. Additional performances are scheduled for May 7 and 8 and May 12-15, also at 7:30 p.m.

The play concerns a team of university archaeologists who are studying the burial mounds of indigenous people living in the Midwest hundreds of years ago. The play centers around the conflict that develops between the scientists, whose work is threatened by approaching water from a new dam, and local landowners who see the new lake created by the dam as a tourist paradise. The play is a tension-filled drama that examines conflicting values and the way archaeology provides insight into how we live now.

The cast of “The Mound Builders” includes junior Paul Bleier, Wautoma, as Professor August Howe; freshman Abbie Williams, Roberts, as Cynthia Howe; junior Ashley Jo Smith, Lone Rock, as Kirsten; senior Anna Figlesthaler, Fox Point, as D.K. (Delia) Eriksen; sophomore Aaron Loy, Rosemount, Minn., as Dr. Dan Loggins; junior Bria Fraundorf, Antigo, as Dr. Jean Loggins; and junior Tony Tompkins, Eau Claire, as Chad Jasker.

Senior Joseph Dauer, Mound, Minn., is stage manager; Jody Sekas, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, is the scenic and lighting designer; and student designer Leahkim Gannett, a senior form Pepin, is the costume designer.

Due to mature subject matter and some strong language, this play is not intended for younger viewers. Parental discretion is advised.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $9 for the general public; $7 for those 62 and older; $6 for those 17 and younger and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff with a university ID; and $5 for students with a university ID.
