UW-Eau Claire’s Women’s Concert Chorale
To Perform Spring Concert May 2

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Women’s Concert Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Alan J. Rieck, assistant professor of music, will present a concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 2, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The concert will begin with “Salut Printemps” by Claude Debussy, featuring Dr. Barbara Wimunc-Pearson, professor of music, on piano. Other selections include “Two Offertories” by Gabriel Fauré; “Veni Creator Spiritus” by Hector Berlioz; “Sing a New Song to the Lord” by Paul Basler, featuring Dr. Christa Garvey, assistant professor of music, on oboe; “Where Dwells the Soul of My Love” by James Mulholland, again featuring Garvey on oboe; and “To Thy Love: Choral Fantasy on Old English Rounds” by William Schuman.

The second half of the program will include “The Star Spangled Banner” by John Stafford Smith (poem/lyrics by Francis Scott Key); “The Roses” by Joan Szymko, featuring senior Sacia Jerome, Barron, on accordion, accompanied on piano by junior Laura Hulke, Eau Claire; “On the Wings of a Song” by Josef Strauss II, arranged by Dr. Michael Cunningham, professor of music; “The Loveliest Night of the Year” by Juventino Rosas, arranged by Cunningham; “How Do I Love Thee” by Nathan Christensen; and “We Are” by Ysaye M. Barnwell.

The Women’s Concert Chorale is one of seven choral ensembles at UW-Eau Claire and specializes in the study and performance of music written specifically for tremble ensembles. The group is comprised of female students from many scholastic disciplines within the university.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, are $4.75 for adults; $3.75 for those age 62 and older, children 17 and younger, and faculty or staff with a university ID; or $1.25 for students with a university ID.
