EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances
the week beginning Monday, May 3. All events are free and open to the public.
Monday, May 3:
- Angela Kathryn Foster, Wauwatosa, will present a senior
horn recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
She will open with Concert Piece for Horn and Piano by Camille Saint-Saëns
and continue with pieces by Strauss, Gliere, Mozart and Brahms. Beverly Soll
will provide piano accompaniment.
Tuesday, May 4:
- Jeffrey Specht, Arden Hills, Minn., will present a senior
tuba/conducting recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine
Arts Center. The first half will feature Specht performing on tuba and he
will open his program with “Après un Rêve” (After
a Dream) by Gabriel Fauré and continue with William Kraft’s “Encounters
II” and “Salut D’Amour” by Edward Elgar. He will open
the second half of his recital with a piano solo of “Fantasy”
Op. 12, by Schumann and will then conduct eight wind students performing Mozart’s
Serenade No. 11 in E-flat Major. Matthew Steinbron, Eagan, Minn., will provide
piano accompaniment.
- Sacia Anne Jerome, Barron, will present a senior cello
recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. She
will be assisted by alumna lecturer Lori Cruciani on piano. Jerome’s
program will feature Sonata in D Minor by Arcangelo Corelli, “Meditation
Hebraique” by Ernest Bloch, “Drei Leichte Stucke” by Paul
Hindemith and Sonata in C Major by Sergei Prokofiev.
- Zach Halmstad, Eau Claire, will present a senior piano
recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The program will feature George Gershwin’s Preludes for Piano, Beethoven’s
Sonata in E Flat, Op. 7, and “Desperate Measures,” Op. 48 (Paganini
Variations) by Robert Muczynski.
Wednesday, May 5:
- Soprano Nicole Marie Peters, a senior from Maplewood,
Minn., and mezzo-soprano Christine Louise Schweikert, a senior from Coon Rapids,
Minn., will present a joint voice recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall
of the Haas Fine Arts Center. They will be assisted on piano by senior Phillip
Dorn, Clintonville, and Melissa Summers. They will perform their first piece,
Vivaldi’s “Laudamus Te” from “Gloria,” together,
and thereafter alternate performing as they present pieces by Schubert, Handel,
Joaquin Rodrigo, Emilie Zumsteeg, Clara Schumann and others.
- BASSically Brass, directed by Jerry Young, professor of
music, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the
Haas Fine Arts Center. The program will feature works such as the “Light
Cavalry Overture” by Franz von Suppe; Simone Mantia’s “Believe
Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms”; and Franz Biebel’s “Ave
Maria,” as well as other works by Mozart, Hoagy Carmichael and others.
Several student guest conductors will also be featured.
Thursday, May 6:
- Mezzo-soprano Amy Buehner, Elkhorn, and soprano Kelley
Wholean, Waterford, will present a joint senior recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips
Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. They will give solo performances
for pieces by Handel, Purcell, Bach, Mozart and others. For their final two
numbers, “Duetto Buffo di Due Gatti” by Gioachino Rossini and
“Marry the Man Today” by Frank Loesser from “Guys and Dolls,”
they will perform together.
Sunday, May 9:
- Eu-Tu(ba), a student/faculty collaborative tuba and euphonium
ensemble, will present a recital at 5 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral in Eau
Claire. The ensemble features students Dawn Holte, a senior from Sheboygan,
on euphonium; Jeffrey Specht, a senior from Arden Hills, Minn., on tuba; Andrei
Strizek, a senior from Sun Prairie, on euphonium; and professor of music Jerry
Young on tuba. They will perform Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor by J.S. Bach,
and “Locuste Iste” by Anton Bruckner, as well as four other pieces.
