Chippewa Falls History Project to be Displayed at Student Research Day
 MAILED:  April 23, 2004

Nine University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire history undergraduate students worked with the Chippewa Falls Museum of Industry and Technology to research and design online historical exhibits that interpret and document topics important to the social and economic history of the greater Chippewa Falls area.

The Web sites will go live in June but will be available for viewing during UW-Eau Claire’s 12th annual Student Research Day April 26 and 27.

The Web exhibits will become part of the Chippewa Falls museum’s virtual exhibitions. Each exhibit includes archival documents, oral histories and other sources to help viewers understand the events, people and institutions that helped shape the Chippewa Valley. The sites will introduce the Chippewa Valley’s rich history to a worldwide audience and serve as a teaching tool for how to research and interpret local history.

The public history exhibit’s projects include:

You can view the history exhibit from noon-4 p.m. Monday, April 26, and from 8 a.m.-noon Tuesday, April 27, in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center during Student Research Day. The exhibit will include posters, abstracts and photos, as well as laptops so you can access the Web sites to view the projects.

The “Researching the Past for the Public” history project poster presentation will be one of 182 displays involving 345 students and 130 faculty mentors at the Student Research Day. The event is free and open to the public.

Students will be with their posters and available to discuss their research during the April 26 poster session.

Dr. Patricia Turner, associate professor of history, can talk with you about the public history project and help you connect with students who participated in the project. You can reach her at (715) 836-3369 or
