UW-Eau
Claire Participation in Employment Expo
MAILED:
April 20, 2004
Staff from several UW-Eau Claire offices will attend
the Employment Expo Thursday, April 22, to offer
job seekers help in identifying jobs or educational opportunities that may be
available to them.
Every year UW-Eau Claire has staff at the Employment Expo.
But this year the university increased the number of staff and offices represented
at the expo to offer additional assistance and support to those who lost jobs
in a series of Chippewa Valley layoffs that were announced in recent weeks.
The following UW-Eau Claire offices will have staff at the
expo to talk with job seekers:
- Human Resources. UW-Eau
Claire and other state agencies need temporary or permanent staff, ranging
from information systems professionals to custodians to office support. Human
Resources staff can help job seekers identify state jobs, determine qualifications
and understand the application process. Contact: Donna Weber,
director, (715) 836-3871 or weberdj@uwec.edu.
- Educational Opportunity Center.
Counselors use assessment instruments and interviews to help adults find programs
that suit their interests and skills. They help clients pick schools that
provide training, and meet location and cost needs. They help with admission
and financial aid paperwork, and registration and class selection. Contact:
Betty Hanson, director, (715) 836-2024
or hansonba@uwec.edu.
- Nontraditional Student Services.
NSS provides advising to nontraditional students. The adviser also serves
as a resource person for nontraditional students on campus. Contact: Bonnie
Isaacson, nontraditional student adviser,
(715) 836-3259 or isaacsbj@uwec.edu.
- Career Services. Career
Services can help students and alumni research careers, identify strategies
for pursuing specific occupations, connect with UW-Eau Claire alumni working
in a field of interest and assist job seekers in a variety of other ways.
Contact: Jeanne Skoug, director, (715)
836-5358 or skougjm@uwec.edu.
- Small Business Development Center.
The SBDC provides information, training and counseling to entrepreneurs and
small business owners and managers. Its mission is to marshal the resources
of the UW System to benefit the small business community. Contact: Kevin Jones,
director, (715) 836-4820 or joneskw@uwec.edu.
The 9th annual Employment Expo (sponsored by the Eau Claire
and Chippewa Falls Job Center partner agencies) will run from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
April 22 at the Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center.
