EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band, under the direction of Dr. Phil Ostrander, assistant professor of music, will present a spring concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The concert will open with “March of the Belgian Paratroopers” by Pierre Leemans. The ensemble will continue with “Azdak Suite,” a piece by Dr. Michael Cunningham, professor of music. Works also being performed include Symphony #1 by Daniel Bukvich; “American Elegy” by Frank Ticheli; “Laude” by Howard Hanson; and “The Circus Bee” by Henry Fillmore.
This concert will feature a performance by senior pianist Kristin Yost, Sisseton, S.D., playing RIchard Adinsell's “Warsaw Concerto,” and senior Andrei Strizek, Sun Prairie, conducting “American Riversongs” by Pierre La Plante. Yost won the spring student concerto competition and Strizek won the student conducting competition, both of which included the honor of performing with the Symphony Band at this concert.
Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $4.75 for the general public; $3.75 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.25 for students with a university ID.
