University Band to Perform
Spring Concert April 26

 MAILED:  April 19, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The University Band will present a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 26, in Gantner Concert Hall, Haas Fine Arts Center, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The Band, under the direction of Dr. Randal Dickerson, assistant professor of music, will open the program with “American Overture for Band” by Joseph Wllcox Jenkins, a piece written for the U.S. Army Field Band in which the French horn section is prominently featured.

The program will continue with Robert Sheldon’s “Beyond the Higher Skies” and “Valdres,” a Norwegian march first performed in 1904 by the second regiment of Norway and composed by Johannes Hanssen, one of Norway’s most active and influential bandmasters composers and teachers during the first 40 years of the 20th century. Also featured will be Frank Ticheli’s “Loch Lomond,” a newer work commissioned with funds from the Scottish Arts Council, first performed in 2002, and “Liturgical Dances” by David Holsinger. The concert will close with Harry Alford’s arrangement of “On, Wisconsin!” by W.T. Purdy.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $3.75 for the general public; $2.75 for those 62 and older and children 17 and younger; and free for faculty, staff and students with a university ID.
