UW-Eau Claire Student Research Day
Set for April 26-27

 MAILED:  April 16, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students will display their student and faculty collaborative research and independent student research at the12th annual Student Research Day April 26-27.

Posters will be on display from noon to 4 p.m. April 26 and from 8 a.m. to noon April 27 in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center. Students will be with their posters and available to discuss their research during the April 26 poster session.

The event highlights student research accomplishments, as well as the importance of faculty and academic staff acting as mentors in the scholarly activity process, said Dr. Christopher Lind, assistant vice chancellor and director of the Center of Excellence for Faculty/Student Research Collaboration. Research Day encourages dissemination of research results from all disciplines in the UW-Eau Claire academic community, he said.

This year’s projects represent student/faculty collaborations in 29 departments and units, with 182 displays involving 345 students and 130 faculty mentors, Lind said. All presentations have at least one faculty mentor. Some faculty and students are involved in multiple projects.

A seven-member judging panel consisting of faculty from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, St. Olaf College, University of St. Thomas, Edgewood College, WiSys: The Wisconsin Technology Foundation and UW System will select posters for special recognition in the categories of arts and humanities, behavioral and social sciences, business and professional studies, natural and physical sciences, and graduate entries.

Research project funding came from many sources including the UW-Eau Claire Center of Excellence for Faculty/Student Research Collaboration, UW-Eau Claire Foundation Inc., Blugold Fellows Program, U.S. Department of Education McNair Fellows Program, Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services, Research Corporation, American Chemical Society-Petroleum Research Fund, National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Medical College of Wisconsin, Western Parks and National Monuments Association, Friends of Beaver Creek, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Geological Survey and Extrusion Dies LLC. Support also was provided from academic departments within the university.

Research Day is free and open to the campus and Eau Claire communities. For more information, contact Lind at (715) 836-3405.
