32nd Annual
Honors Week
Begins April 19 at UW-Eau Claire
MAILED:
April 15, 2004
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
is celebrating its 32nd annual Scholastic Honors Week Monday, April 19, through
Sunday, April 25.
“This week is set aside by the university to recognize
students of high scholastic achievement,” said Bob Shaw, associate dean
of students and coordinator of honors week.
During the 1972-1973 school year, Dr. Ormsby L. Harry,
who was the Phi Kappa Phi Secretary, presented the suggestion that recognition
should be given to individuals for their academic achievements as they earn
them, instead of waiting until graduation. A steering committee was formed to
plan the first ever Honors Week, which was held in April 1973.
This year also marks Shaw’s last year as associate
dean of student development and Honors Week coordinator. Shaw will retire at
the end of May after 34 years of service.
