UW-Eau Claire Bookstore
Receives National Award

 MAILED:  April 14, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s bookstore received a national award and recognition from parent company Barnes & Noble College Booksellers at the annual meeting and trade show March 15-19 in Orlando, Fla.

University Bookstore manager Camille Weixel was one of six out of more than 500 managers to accept a Bestsellers Award for the store’s participation in the company’s management in training program. She also presented a session on leadership in bookstore management at the meeting.

Barnes & Noble’s nationwide management development program, called Bestsellers, offers student employees an opportunity to learn everything there is to know about running a college bookstore. The in-store on-the-job training includes merchandising, marketing and customer service. Candidates for the program are recruited by store managers, and upon successful completion of the Bestsellers program, students are guaranteed offers for management positions with Barnes & Noble.

Weixel is a 1997 graduate of the Bestsellers program, and is pursuing a master’s degree in business administration at UW-Eau Claire. The University Bookstore’s award also recognizes the work of two other Bestsellers — operations manager Janine Honebrink and textbook manager Paul Reinhard — who are December 2003 graduates of UW-Eau Claire.

Five University Bookstore student employees are currently part of the Bestsellers program: Tom Herr, Kristy Lee, Sarah Lonsky, Katie Oehmen and Morgan Peters. For more information about the program contact Camille Weixel, (715) 836-2171, or visit the University Bookstore in Davies Center.

The University Bookstore operates as part of University Centers and Programs, a student services unit of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
