EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances
the week beginning Monday, April 12. All events are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, April 13:
- Senior Nathan Abuan, Shoreview, Minn., will give a senior
violin recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
Abuan will open with Sonata No. 1 in G minor for Solo Violin by Johann Sebastian
Bach and continue with works by Antonin Dvorak, Henryk Wieniawski and Jules
Massenet. Junior Yukiko Fujimura, Kanagawa, Japan, will provide piano accompaniment.
Wednesday, April 14:
- Laura Barth, a junior from Eau Claire, will present
a flute recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
She will perform works by Benedetto Marcello, Arthur Foote, Sofia Gubaidulina
and Robert Muczynski. Roger Bethard will provide piano accompaniment for the
recital.
- Senior Sean Solberg, Minot, N.D., will present a senior
trombone recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts
Center. He will perform works by Eugene Bozza, Anton Bruckner, Malcolm Arnold,
Christoph Wagenseil, Sir Edward Elgar and Launy Grondahl. Senior Kristin Yost,
Sisseton, N.D., will provide piano accompaniment. Alumnus Eric Solberg will
assist on double bass while seniors Joe Hartson, Oconomowoc, and James Yardley,
Duluth, Minn., and junior Kenyon Scheurman, River Falls, will assist on trombone.
Thursday, April 15:
- Senior Jacob Karkula, St. Anthony, Minn., will present
a senior saxophone recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas
Fine Arts Center. He will open with “Introduction and Samba” by
Maurice Whitney and continue with works by Ryo Noda, Darius Milhaud, Eugene
Bozza, Paul Bonneau and Phil Woods. Judy Lies and sophomore Steven Hobert,
Hartland, will provide piano accompaniment.
Sunday, April 18:
- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baroque ensemble
Les Favorites will perform at 4 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas
Fine Arts Center. This ensemble features Dr. Tim Lane, professor of music,
on baroque flute; Ivar Lunde, Jr., music professor emeritus, on baroque oboe;
Lucinda Marvin on baroque violin, Bradley Johnson, lecturer of music, on baroque
violin; Laura Handler on baroque violoncello; and Nanette G. Lunde, music
professor emeritus, on harpsichord. The concert will feature works by Jakob
Friedrich Kleinknecht, Giovanni Benedetto Platti, Johann Friedrich Fasch,
Antonio Vivaldi and Jacques Hotteterre.
