EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances
the week beginning Monday, March 29. All events are free and open to the public.
Wednesday, March 31:
- Soprano Reidun Henrickson, a freshman from Muskego, and
baritone Seth Boyd, a senior from Apple Valley, Minn., will present a joint
recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The
recital will open with Henrickson singing “Ma Rendi Pur Contento”
by Vincenzo Bellini. The students will continue with songs by Mozart, Geoffrey
Bush, Joaquin Rodrigo, Lorenzo Palomo, Franz Schubert, George Gershwin and
more. Judy Lies and sophomore Kathryn Hurd, Fall Creek, will provide piano
accompaniment.
- University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire alumnus Matthew Pivec
will present a guest saxophone recital at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall
of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Pivec will open with “Capers” by
Dr. Michael Cunningham, professor of music, and continue with Suite No. 1
for Tenor Saxophone and Piano by Alec Wilder. He also will perform works by
Dave Pivello, Victor Morosco, Wayne Shorter, Dick Oatts, Billy Strayhorn and
Wayne Shorter. After graduating from UW-Eau Claire, Pivec went on to receive
his master of music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he is currently
pursuing a doctor of musical arts degree. A veteran of UW-Eau Claire’s
Jazz Ensemble I, Pivec has performed with Ray Charles, Peter Erskine, Maria
Schneider, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the national touring company
of the Broadway show “Hairspray.”
Thursday, April 1:
- Soprano Amanda DePons, a senior from New Berlin,
will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine
Arts Center. DePons will begin with the Alleluia from “Exsultate, Jubilate”
by Mozart and continue with songs by Gabriel Fauré, Ernest Chausson,
Richard Strauss, Amadeo Vives, Lucy Simon and more. Junior Stacie Olson, Neenah,
will provide piano accompaniment for the recital, and senior Nathan Abuan,
Shoreview, Minn., will assist on violin.
- Senior Phillip Dorn, Clintonville, will present a senior
piano recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
He will perform works by Domenico Scarlatti, Richard Cumming, Edvard Grieg,
and the Piano Quartet No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 60 by Johannes Brahms. Sophomore
Peter Chang, Eau Claire, on violin, and seniors Nick Munagian, Wisconsin Rapids,
and Sacia Jerome, Barron, on viola and cello, will assist Dorn on the quartet.
Sunday, April 4:
- Soprano Mitra Sadeghpour, assistant professor of music,
will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the
Haas Fine Arts Center. Sadeghpour will open with “I Attempt from Love’s
Sickness” by Henry Purcell and continue with works by Charles Founod,
Giacomo Puccini, Johannes Brahms, Reynaldo Hahn and Cole Porter. Barbara Wimunc-Pearson,
professor of music, will provide piano accompaniment.
