16th Annual Latin American Conference
To be Held at UW-Eau Claire April 29-30

EAU CLAIRE — The 16th annual Midwest Conference on Latin American Studies will be held April 29-30, at the W.R. Davies Center on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus.

The event, sponsored by UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension and the departments of foreign languages, history, music and theatre arts, art & design, and political science, will begin with a welcome from 7-9:30 p.m. April 29, featuring MadiSalsa, a Madison ensemble devoted to the musical traditions of Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The MadiSalsa performance is open to the general public. Tickets are $8 and available at the UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension office at 210 Water Street.

The April 30 program will run 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Keynote speaker Dr. Jacqueline Barnitz from the University of Texas at Austin will present, “What Does ‘Latin American’ Art Mean to a U.S. Audience? A Historical View.” More than 20 presentations on art, music and literature will be held throughout the day.

Conference costs are $50 for professionals/community members (includes Thursday evening and Friday sessions, lunch, and .06 CEUs); $25 for graduate students (Thursday evening and Friday sessions and lunch); $15 for undergraduate students (includes Thursday evening and Friday sessions, no lunch); $8 for the Thursday evening opening only, featuring MadiSalsa; $8 for undergraduate students (Friday only, no lunch); $34 for professionals/community members (Friday sessions only, no lunch); $12 for Friday lunch only.
