Hmong Cultural Festival

UW-Eau Claire’s Hmong Student Association and the Office of Multicultural Affairs will host the 16th annual Hmong Cultural Festival from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, March 13, in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

The guest speaker for the event is Dr. Jane Hamilton-Merritt, whose presentation will run from 11 a.m.-noon.

Hamilton-Merritt is the author of “Tragic Mountains, the Hmong, the Americans, and the Secret Wars for Laos.” For more than 25 years she has been documenting the Hmong story, beginning with the Vietnam War and continuing to the present. She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her efforts on behalf of the Hmong people.

Workshops and speakers also will be included in the daylong event. A traditional Hmong dance group will perform from 10:30-10:45 a.m. and again from 1-1:15 p.m.
