UW-Eau Claire Students Participate
In ‘Collegiate Click Drive’ to Raise Funds

 MAILED:  March 4, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The Student Life and Diversity Commission of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Student Senate is participating in the third annual nationwide “Collegiate Click Drive.” The Click Drive started Feb.14 and will run through March 26.

The project encourages college students and communities across the United States to help raise up to $1 million for micro-credit programs in developing countries.

“The Click Drive is such an easy way to help make a difference for people living in poverty,” said Laura van Zandt, member of the SLD commission. “It takes less than a minute to click on the site and help those in need. Plus it doesn’t require any financial support from those students, but instead, just a click of the mouse!” Van Zandt is encouraging students, faculty, staff and community members to participate in the drive.

Each click generates a $.25 donation, paid for by the site’s sponsors — Calvert Funds, Novica and the Greenstar Foundation. Recipients of the micro loans are chosen in conjunction with the Micro Credit Summit based on their dedication to provide micro-credit assistance to 100 million poor families, especially women, by the year 2005.

Last year, Click Drive participants from more than 300 college campuses across the United States raised more than $35,000.

“This is the first year that UW-Eau Claire is participating in the drive,” van Zandt said. “As of Feb. 29, we’d raised almost $200 for the cause.”

To help raise money for those living in poverty, go to the PovertyFighters Web site, select UW-Eau Claire from the drop-down menu and click “Go.” Participants may register two clicks per day. For more information about the drive, contact Laura van Zandt, (715) 833-8018 or
