Community and university teachers, and students
interested in education careers will gather to honor
the teaching profession this week during “Celebrate
Teaching 2004.” The first-of-its-kind event
will begin at 6:30 p.m. March 4 in the Council
Fire Room of Davies Center. Award-winning first-grade
teacher and author Karen Hale Hankins from Athens, Ga., will be the featured speaker.
At 7 p.m. she’ll talk about her book, “Teaching Through the Storm:
One Teacher’s Journal of Hope.” The book chronicles her experiences
with a diverse group of children in a first-grade classroom. For more information
