EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances
the week beginning Monday, March 15. All events are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, March 16:
- The Sigma Alpha Iota women’s fraternity will present
a recital/lecture at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts
Center. Members of the fraternity will present works by women composers and
give short presentations about each of the composers.
Wednesday, March 17:
- The Wisconsin Woodwind Quintet will present a spring concert
at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The concert
will open with Quintet by Emmanuel Aloys Forster, continue with Dance Suite
by Paul Valjean, and close with “Cinco Danzas Breves” by Mario
Lavista. The quintet features Dr. Tim Lane, professor of music, on flute;
Dr. Christa Garvey, assistant professor of music, on oboe; Dr. Richard Fletcher,
professor of music, on clarinet; Dr. Kristine Fletcher, senior lecturer of
music, on bassoon; and Andrew Parks, lecturer of music, on horn.
Thursday, March 18:
- Soprano Marilyn Spiess, a sophomore from Waconia, Minn.,
and baritone Mark Lundin, a sophomore from Blaine, Minn., will present a joint
vocal recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The students will perform songs by Henry Purcell, Mozart, Henri Duparc, Franz
Schubert, Johannes Brahms and others. Sophomores Kathryn Hurd, Fall Creek,
and Melissa Sommers, Suamico, will provide piano accompaniment for the recital.
