UW-Eau Claire Students Help Area Families Resolve Conflicts
 MAILED:  Feb. 19, 2004

Several UW-Eau Claire nursing and psychology students are working with the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association on a project designed to help middle-school girls, their mothers and other family members build better relationships and resolve conflicts.

The students will conduct a workshop titled “Between Mothers and Daughters: Getting to Know Each Other Through Self-Disclosure” Saturday, Feb. 21. As part of the workshop, the university students will share information about their own relationships with their families and discuss how they resolved conflicts within their families.

Organizers prefer the media not cover the actual workshop because it could make some of the community participants uncomfortable but the students are available at other times to talk with reporters about their project and how it might benefit the local community.

The UW-Eau Claire students will meet at 6 p.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 19) in the radio station on the first floor of the Haas Fine Arts Center. (They will be preparing to discuss their project on Hmong Radio.) Reporters and photographers are welcome to talk with them as a group at that time.

If you would like to arrange a different time to meet with the UW-Eau Claire students or if you want more details about the project, contact Nia Yang, a UW-Eau Claire psychology major and Women’s Studies intern, at or contact Dr. Susan Moch, professor of nursing, at (715) 836-4889.
