UW-Eau Claire Foundation Receives RCU Services Corp.
Gift for Carson Park Turf Project

 MAILED:  Jan. 27, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — RCU Services Corp. has contributed $100,000 through the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation to help pay for installation of artificial turf and a new scoreboard at the Carson Park football field. The gift brings to $500,000 the total amount committed to the $800,000 project.

“Royal Credit Union and RCU Services Corp. have always been interested in supporting youth in our community, and we wanted to continue that trend,” said Joanne Weisheipl, chairperson of RCU Services Corp.’s board of directors.

“We thought that this gift would benefit all ages of youth in our community,” Weisheipl said, noting that the Carson Park football facility is used by UW-Eau Claire and all Eau Claire high schools as well as youth football program participants.

An effort to replace the current natural grass at Carson Park with artificial turf began last fall as a result of concerns about the condition and safety of the playing surface due to heavy use.

“We are thrilled to receive this gift from RCU Services Corp. as the effort continues to secure all of the funding for this project,” said Carole Halberg, UW-Eau Claire Foundation president. “This generous contribution puts the total support committed over the halfway mark, and we’re on our way to making something great happen for the youth of our community.”

Other commitments to the Carson Park Turf Committee have been $300,000 from the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate, to be paid over the next 10 years from student segregated fees, and $100,000 from Chippewa Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

When the Student Senate voted last October to help fund the artificial turf project, it set a May 1, 2004, sunset date on fund raising for the remaining dollars needed. If all $800,000 needed is not raised by that time to allow completion of the project for the fall 2004 football season, the commitment of student funds would be reconsidered.

Halberg called the RCU Services Corp. gift “a wonderful example of how partnerships within the community — in this case, a partnership between the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, RCU Services Corp. and the city of Eau Claire’s Carson Park Turf Committee — can make positive changes possible.”

RCU Services Corp. is an area provider of insurance and investment services. Its gift to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation is recognized as a contribution to Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence, the Foundation’s ongoing comprehensive fund-raising campaign. The five-year campaign, which seeks private support for UW-Eau Claire’s people and programs, runs through June 2005.
