EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will present Cabaret XXVI, Cabaret Royalty, sponsored by the department of music and theatre arts and University Centers and Programs, W. R. Davies Center, in January 2004.

Cabaret performances are slated for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22-24 and 29-31, with matinees at 2 p.m. Jan. 24 and 31. All shows will be in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

Music from a wide variety of musical artists, including Garth Brooks, the King of Country; Bing Crosby, the King of Croon; Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul; Sir Elton John; Elvis Presley, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll; and many other artists recognized as musical royalty will be featured in a show that will offer something to delight all ages.

“All artists presented in Cabaret XXVI have an affiliation to Royalty, either by recognition within the music world and/or Knighthood by English Parliament,” said Gary Schwartzhoff, executive director of Cabaret Productions.

A 10-month project with an operating budget of $18,000, Cabaret has raised nearly $200,000 in scholarships for music students.

Several UW-Eau Claire music ensembles will perform, including the Cabaret Orchestra, Concert Choir I and II, The Singing Statesmen and Women’s Concert Chorale.

Nine student directors select the music, arrange the score and prepare the music with their ensembles. Student directors for Concert Choir I are senior Michelle Angsten, Waupaca, and junior Stephen Howe, St. Paul, Minn. Junior Catherine Heidke, Muskego, and senior Christina Burgess, Wausau, will direct Concert Choir II.
