EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music
and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances
the week beginning Monday, Dec. 1. All events are free and open to the public.
Monday, Dec. 1:
- The University Band, under the direction of Dr. Randy Dickerson,
assistant professor of music, will present a fall concert at 7:30 p.m. in
Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The band will open the
concert with “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” by Claude T. Smith,
and will continue with works by Robert Sheldon, David Holsinger, Edward Elgar
and John Barnes Chance. Senior student conductor Melissa Weis, Oconomowoc,
will direct the band in “Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves,” arranged
by Paul Lavender. They will close the concert with “Pas Redouble”
by Camille Saint-Saens.

836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $3.75 for the general public; $2.75 for those
62 and older and children 17 and younger; and students, faculty and staff with
a university ID are free.
Tuesday, Dec. 2:
- Senior Kristine Johnson, Loyal, will present a flute
recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Johnson
will begin the concert with Sonata in E major by J.S. Bach, continue with
works by Mozart and Taffanel, and close with a Sonatina by Eldin Burton. Roger
Bethard, Chippewa Falls, will provide piano accompaniment.
- Senior Bryan Jaeckel, Waunakee, will present a French horn
recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Jaeckel
will perform works by Vaclav Nelhybel, Joseph Rheinberger, Franz Strauss and
Antonio Vivaldi. The recital also will feature the world premiere of “…from
the darkness, there is light” by Justin Stolarik. Judy Lies will provide
piano accompaniment, Steve Jaeckel will assist on vibraphone, and Andrew Parks,
associate lecturer in the music and theatre arts department, will assist on
horn.
- The piano studio of Dr. Donald Patterson, professor of
music, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the
Haas Fine Arts Center. The students will perform works by Aram Khachaturian
to honor the centenary of his birth. Both of Khachaturian’s Children’s
Albums; Sonatina, Op. 93; Toccata, Op. 24; Waltz from “Masquerade Suite,”
Op. 48; “Poem, Op. 12”; and the “Sabre Dance” from
Gayne Ballet, Op. 50 will be featured at the recital.
Wednesday, Dec. 3:
- The tuba and euphonium studio, under the direction of Dr.
Jerry Young, professor of music, will present a BASSically Brass recital at
7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The ensemble
will begin with Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Bach, and will continue with
Saint-Saens’ Adagio from Symphony No. 3, “Consortium” by
John Cheetham and “The Golden Bear” by J.J. Richards.
Thursday, Dec. 4:
- Jazz Ensemble IV and V will present a concert at 7:30 p.m.
in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Seniors Brian Thorstad,
Hastings, Minn., and Joe Hartson, Oconomowoc, will lead Jazz V and sophomore
Scott Currier, Muskego, and senior Tom Krochock, Minneapolis, Minn, will lead
Jazz IV. The groups will perform some jazz classics as well as a couple of
modern favorites.
