12th Annual ‘Ye Olde Madrigale Dinner’
To be Held at UW-Eau Claire Dec. 5 and 6

 MAILED:  Nov. 24, 2003

EAU CLAIRE — The Council Fire Room of the W.R. Davies University Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will be transformed into the Great Hall of Lord and Lady Chamberlain’s castle as the UW-Eau Claire department of music and theatre arts presents the 12th annual “Ye Olde Madrigale Dinner” at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Patrons will receive names of nobility as they enter the candlelit 15th century banquet hall, draped with medieval banners and evergreen accents. The mood will be one of enchantment from Christmas long ago as diners feast on the period-appropriate wassail, beef vegetable soupe, pork chop, oven-brown potatoes, glazed carrots, dinner rolle and apple dessert. A cash bar also will be available.

The Court Chamber Choir, Brass Choir, Recorders, and Thespians will entertain the assembled guests. Dr. Gary Schwartzhoff, director of choral activities, conducts the Court Chamber Choir; Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, conducts the Court Brass Choir, and community member Kathy Miller conducts the Court Recorders. The Court Thespians will perform “The Pretenders” and “The Boot in The Mirror.” During the course of the evening, senior Jenifer Schwartzhoff, Eau Claire, will perform on harpsichord.

This special evening is presented in the spirit of Elizabethan times when the Lord of the Manor invited his friends into his home to celebrate a successful harvest and the beginning of the Holiday Season. People attending are invited to dress in period costume.

“The Madrigal Dinner is an important aspect of the bachelor of music program for our music students,” said Schwartzhoff, who began the Madrigal Dinner in 1992. “It’s also a nice opening to the holiday season at the university.”

Freshman Alex Krukowski, Waconia, Minn., will make his first appearance as the court jester. Other members of the court are the king and queen presiding over the dinner, played by freshman Tim Baumann, River Falls, and junior Shannon Kroenke, Ashland; and hosts Lord and Lady Chamberlain, played by freshman James Boland, Brookfield, and junior Catherine Heidke, Muskego.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, are $26. All seats are reserved and must be purchased by Dec. 3. Tickets will not be available at the door. Large parties are welcome and are encouraged to make their reservations early.
