UW-Eau Claire Forensics
Competes in Charity Tournament

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team placed third at both of two Mid-America Forensics League Tournaments held Saturday, Nov. 15, at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minn., and Sunday, Nov. 16, at UW-Eau Claire.

The tournament held Sunday was designated as a charity event. In place of trophies, 50 cents per sweepstakes point was earned for each school’s chosen charity. UW-Eau Claire competed for Bolton Refuge House and earned $26.50. This money will be used to host a make-over session at the Bolton House in cooperation with the UW-Eau Claire Student Homeless Awareness Chapter sometime this month.

Following are the individual results from Saturday’s MAFL 4th tournament:

Freshman Amy Oldakowski, Sobieski, took second in persuasive speaking.

Junior Chris Conklin, Green Bay, placed third in impromptu speaking.

Junior Andy Bevernitz, Clintonville, took fourth place in both after-dinner speaking and communication analysis.

Senior Brandon Buchanan, Chippewa Falls, placed fourth in extemporaneous speaking and fifth in impromptu speaking.

Junior Mandy Dolan, Greenfield, took sixth in program oral interpretation.

Following are the individual results from Sunday’s MAFL 5th tournament:

Bevernitz placed first in informative speaking and third in communication analysis.

Buchanan took fifth in informative speaking and seventh in impromptu speaking.

Conklin placed fifth in after-dinner speaking.

Sophomore Abby Czeskleba, Middleton, took sixth in persuasive speaking.
