UW-Eau Claire Singing Statesmen
To Present Varied Fall Concert

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Singing Statesmen, under the direction of Dr. Gary Schwartzhoff, associate professor of music, will present a fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The choir will open the concert with a set of sacred music, including works by Lloyd Pfautsch, Giacomo Carissimi, John Ness Beck and Jackson Berkey.

The second set will include military tributes and remembrance pieces. “The Star-Spangled Banner;” “The Soldier’s Grave” by senior Justin Lundberg, Eau Claire; “A Dirge for Two Veterans,” by Gustav Holst; “Soldier’s Elegy” by Michael Kregler; and an arrangement of “We Will Go On” by UW-Eau Claire alumnus Tom Anderson. Members of the Singing Statesmen will provide narrative throughout this military tribute set.

The Innocent Men will perform three pieces after intermission, including “Ants Marching,” “Here Without You,” and “Drift Away.”

The Singing Statesmen’s final set will include many traditional and folk songs from different cultures. “Shenandoah”; “Ragged Leevy”; “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miserables”; “Into the Fire” from “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” arranged by UW-Eau Claire alumnus Robert Schlidt; and “Johnny Schmoker” will all be featured. The Statesmen will close with songs of the university.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
