UW-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble II
To Give Concert Nov. 20

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Jazz II Ensemble, under the direction of Robert Baca, associate professor of music, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. More than 15 student musicians will perform.

The first half of the performance, with “Mad About Thad” as its theme, will feature four compositions by Thad Jones — “All of Me”; “Tip Toe, a trumpet solo by freshman John Dehaven, Madison; “To You”; and “Fingers.”

The theme of the second half of the concert will be “Mambo Kings.” It will open with Mike Mossman’s “Cubauza,” and continue with “Samba Del Gringo” by Gordon Goodwin; “Latin Expresso” by Matt Harris; “Mueva Los Huesos” (Shake Your Bones), also by Goodwin; and “Tango” from “The Three Penny Opera,” arranged by Chris Campbell. The entire ensemble will close with John Gillespie’s “Manteca.”

All selections in the second half of the program will be accompanied by the UW-Eau Claire Concert Dance Company, directed by Dr. Toni Poll-Sorenson.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $3.75 for the general public; $2.75 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and free for students with a university ID.
