EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music
and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances
the week beginning Monday, Nov. 17. All events are free and open to the public.
Monday, Nov. 17:
- Senior Matt Edlund, Sun Prairie, and senior Michelle DeGroot,
Appleton, will present a joint recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall
of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Edlund will premiere his own composition, “An
American in Eau Claire,” on drumset, and DeGroot will be performing
“Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun” by Debussy on flute. Dr.
Beverly Soll will provide piano accompaniment for DeGroot.
- The Percussion Ensemble, led by Dr. Jeffery Crowell, assistant
professor of music, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert
Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Pieces will feature students in the percussion
studio as well as guest performers. Junior Margaret Bailey, Edwardsville,
Ill., will be featured in “Red Norvo Suite” by Red Norvo, and
senior student conductor Bryan Jaeckel, Waunakee, will conduct “Mudra”
by Bob Becker.
Tuesday, Nov. 18:
- Senior James Bungert, Rush City, Minn., will perform a piano
recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Bungert
will open the recital with “Estampes Suite” by Debussy. He will
continue with works by Chopin and Tchaikovsky, and will conclude with the
“Pathetique” sonata by Beethoven.
- The Trombone Ensemble, directed by Phil Ostrander, assistant
professor of music, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert
Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The group will perform works by Haydn,
Sibelius, Bach, Schubert, Mahler, Johnny Mercer and Cole Porter.
Wednesday, Nov. 19:
- The Opera Workshop Class, taught by Robert Knight, associate
professor of music, and Mitra Sadeghpour, assistant professor of music, will
give a Thanksgiving party celebrating opera at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert
Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Students will perform excerpts from “Mr.
Choufleuri,” “Candide,” “The Face on the Barroom Floor,”
“Die Fledermaus” and more. Junior Yukiko Fujimura, and freshman
Katie LeBrun will provide piano accompaniment for the performance.
- Senior Sarah Goerg, Appleton, will present a clarinet recital
at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Goerg will
perform works by Johannes Brahms, Igor Stravinsky, Carl Nielson, and Suite
for Violin, Clarinet and Piano, Op. 157b by Darius Milhaud. Lori Cruciani,
associate lecturer of music, will provide piano accompaniment, and seniors
Nathan Abuan, Shoreview, Minn., and Matthew Steinbron, Eagan, Minn., will
assist on violin and piano.
Thursday, Nov. 20:
- Soprano Abby Fromader, a senior from Platteville,
and mezzo-soprano Lindsey Andress, a senior from Suamico, will present a joint
recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. They
will perform works by Brahms, Mozart, Bernstein, Irving Berlin and more. Sophomore
Steven Hobert, Hartland, and senior Phillip Dorn, Clintonville, will provide
piano accompaniment for the recital.
