EAU CLAIRE — A lecture on the development of American Jewish musical styles will be presented at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in Davies Theater, Davies Center, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

“The Evolution of American Jewish Music,” presented by Andrew Muchon, will provide musical and cultural background designed to enhance enjoyment of a concert of klezmer and other Jewish music that will be presented in the Council Fire Room, Davies Center, at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16. Muchon is an award-winning journalist who has written on Jewish music for national Jewish and blues magazines and newspapers. He has developed and is host and producer of a Jewish radio program that began airing on Sundays last month on WMSE-91.7 FM in Milwaukee. “Jewish Waves” presents contemporary and classic Jewish music. Muchon earned a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1980.

The lecture, which will include recorded excerpts demonstrating different musical styles, is co-sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire Academic Affairs Professional Development Program, the department of geography and anthropology, and the department of music and theater arts.

Admission is free. For more information, contact Dr. Helaine Minkus, associate professor of geography and anthropology, at (715) 836-5481.
