UW-Eau Claire Symphony Orchestra
To Present Fall Concert Nov. 9

 MAILED:  Oct. 30, 2003

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Nobuyoshi Yasuda, assistant professor of music, will present a fall concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The orchestra will open the concert with Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 in G major. Writer and critic Ethan Mordden has called this piece “irresistible” and “one of the most nationalistic symphonies going.”

“Melodically, this is one of the most satisfying of symphonies,” wrote Mordden.

After a quick intermission, the orchestra will perform Hector Berlioz’s well-known “Symphonie Fantastique,” which features a programmatic structure and the famous idée fixe, a term used by Berlioz to describe a short musical idea that reappears in different versions throughout a composition.

Reserved tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
