UW-Eau Claire Forensics Team
Takes First Place in Mankato

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin forensics team traveled to the Minnesota State University, Mankato, this past Friday for a tournament. They came back late Friday night with the first place team trophy.

“We took nine students to the tournament and they all did very well,” said Karen Morris, director of Forensics.

Following are the individual results from Friday’s tournament:

Junior Chris Conklin, Green Bay, took first place in program oral interpretation, after-dinner speaking, and the individual sweepstakes, which included a $100 cash award from the tournament’s founder, Larry Schnoor. Conklin also placed second in extemporaneous speaking and third in impromptu.

Junior Kelly Bender, New London, took first in persuasive speaking, second in poetry, fourth in informative speaking and was a semi-finalist in prose interpretation.

Junior Andy Bevernitz, Clintonville, placed first in duo interpretation with sophomore Dan McNeely, Bloomington, Minn., second in prose interpretation and fourth in after-dinner speaking. McNeely also took third in informative peaking.

Senior Brandon Buchanan, Chippewa Falls, placed first in informative speaking.

Sophomore Elizabeth Schroeder, Le Center, Minn., took second in persuasive speaking.

Sophomore Abby Czeskleba, Middleton, placed sixth in persuasive speaking and was a semi-finalist in prose interpretation.

Freshman Christine Zani, Hurley, was a semi-finalist in prose interpretation.

The team will compete next at Iowa’s Wartburg College.
