Milwaukee’s The Paragraphs to Give
Three Free Concerts at UW-Eau Claire

 MAILED:  Oct. 29, 2003

EAU CLAIRE — The Paragraphs, Milwaukee’s premier found-text pop band, will present three free concerts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Nov. 6-8. The shows will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in The Cabin, Davies Center.

Deriving their lyrics from books and magazines, The Paragraphs integrate live drama (monologues or dialogues), pop music and found text in their performances. Their first project, from F. Yeats-Brown’s “The Lives of a Bengal Lancer,” included 19 song-chapters and six dialogues. Their second project consisted of five songs from a 1997 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, five songs from Field and Stream, and four monologues. Their current set — “The War on Terror: The Musical” — includes a complete George W. Bush speech.

Performing propaganda music you can dance to, the Paragraphs are Renato Umali (keyboard and vocals), Didier Laplae (bass), Eilis O’Herlihy (accordion and vocals), and Steve Wetzel (drums). Recent performances include a live performance on radio (WHAD 90.7, Milwaukee Public Radio), the Degenerative Arts Show, and benefits for Visual Arts Milwaukee and the Socialist Party of Milwaukee.

The show is open to all ages. Pop, domestic and imported beer, wine coolers and popcorn will be sold; proof of age is required for alcohol purchases.

The Cabin program is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
