UW-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble I and Wind Symphony to
Perform at State Music Conference

 MAILED:  Oct. 24, 2003

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble I and Wind Symphony will be performing at the state music conference at the Monona Terrace in Madison. Jazz Ensemble I will perform at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, and the Wind Symphony will perform at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30. The conference, sponsored by the Wisconsin Music Educator’s Association, is three days filled with performances, clinics and workshops for music educators around the state.

Jazz Ensemble I has performed at WMEA two of the last three years and always present a concert filled with some of the best jazz sounds around, said Bob Baca, director of the jazz studies area at UW-Eau Claire.

“As always, it is great exposure for UW-Eau Claire to have student groups performing at the state music convention,” Baca said, adding that it also is beneficial for UW-Eau Claire students to be around people in the profession.

Each year, the WMEA board of directors selects two college bands to perform at the conference. This is the Wind Symphony’s second time appearing at the conference in three years.

“The Wind Symphony is proud to have been invited to perform at the 2003 Wisconsin State Music Conference,” said Dr. Mark Heidel, director of bands at UW-Eau Claire. “The members of this fine ensemble will represent UW-Eau Claire with a truly outstanding and memorable performance.”

All concerts at the WMEA convention are free and open to the public.
