EAU CLAIRE —The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire forensics team took five individuals to the Sugarloaf Classic tournament sponsored by Winona State University in Winona, Minn., Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12.
The team placed third in team sweepstakes and two team members placed in individual sweepstakes. Junior Chris Conklin, Green Bay, won the individual sweepstakes and sophomore Dan McNeely, Bloomington, Minn., placed fourth in individual sweepstakes. Students needed four events to be considered for this category.
Following are the individual results from this weekend’s Sugarloaf Classic tournament:
Junior Andy Bevernitz, Clintonville, took first place in prose interpretation, fourth place in after-dinner speaking and first place in duo interpretation along with McNeely, who also placed second in poetry interpretation.
Conklin placed second in program oral interpretation, second in impromptu, third in extemporaneous speaking and third in after-dinner speaking.
Sophomore Betsy Schroeder, Le Center, Minn., took third in persuasion.
The forensics team will travel to Mankato, Minn., Oct. 18 with about 12 students, including some freshmen who will be competing for the first time.
