Prize-winning Pianist Alexandre Dossin
To Perform in Chippewa Falls Home

 MAILED:  Oct. 2, 2003

EAU CLAIRE — Dr. Alexandre Dossin, recent winner of the first prize gold medal in the Martha Argerich International Piano competition in Buenos Aires, Argentina, will present “Music at Sunset,” a Friends of Music piano recital at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the home of Roger Bethard in Chippewa Falls.

Tickets are still available for this evening of music and hors d’oeuvres hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire department of music and theatre arts, the steering committee of the Friends of Music and the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. A social hour will begin at 6:15 p.m.

This is the second time that Bethard has opened his home for a Friends of Music recital. Dossin will perform on Bethard’s Bosendorfer Imperial Grand piano.

Dossin, assistant professor of music at UW-Eau Claire, has performed in 15 countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. He has won prizes in several international piano competitions, including the silver medal and second honorable mention in the Maria Callas Grand Prix (Athens, Greece, 1996), third prize and special prize in the Mozart International Piano Competition (Salzburg, Austria, 1995) and fourth prize in the Mazara-del-Vallo International Piano Competition (Sicily, Italy, 1993).

Dossin moved to the United States after his participation in the 1997 Van Cliburn Competition in Fort Worth, Texas. He received his master of fine arts degree from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Russia, and his doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

The steering committee of the Friends of Music planned this event to continue the fund development campaign to acquire two harps to be used by the department of music and theatre arts in ensembles and applied study.

The cost for the recital is $65. Reservations are required and seating is limited. Early reservations are encouraged. To make a reservation, call the UW-Eau Claire music department office, (715) 836-4954, or the UW-Eau Claire Foundation office, (715) 836-5630.
