P.J. O’Rourke News Conference

 MAILED:  Sept. 16, 2003

Humorist, journalist and political commentator P.J. O’Rourke will be available to meet with the news media from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the Potawatomi Room of Davies Center at UW-Eau Claire.

O’Rourke will open the 62nd season of The Forum during his 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17 presentation, titled “The Politics of Worry – Government vs. the Free Market: Which is Worse?” His evening presentation will be in Zorn Arena. A question-and-answer session will follow O’Rourke’s formal remarks. And a reception will be held in the Dulany Inn of Davies Center immediately following The Forum presentation.

With more citations in The Penguin Dictionary of Humorous Quotations than any other living writer, O’Rourke has established himself as America’s premier political satirist. He’s been called “one of the funniest writers in America” by Time magazine and the “funniest writer alive” by The Wall Street Journal.

A former editor of National Lampoon, O’Rourke has written for such diverse publications as Automobile, The Weekly Standard, House and Garden, Foreign Policy, The New York Times Book Review, Forbes FYI and Rolling Stone. He’s a regular correspondent for The Atlantic Monthly.

Cameras will not be allowed in Zorn Arena during O’Rourke’s evening presentation.

For more information about O’Rourke’s visit to campus, contact Jennifer Hinners, assistant special events and arts coordinator, at (715) 836-2787 or
