For the Week of Sept. 22
MAILED:
Sept. 12, 2003
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances
the week beginning Monday, Sept. 22. All events are free and open to the public.
Sunday, Sept. 28:
- Paul Kosower, professor of music, will present a
faculty cello recital at 2 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts
Center. The program will begin with Cesar Franck’s Sonata in A Major,
followed by Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Sonata, Op. 19 in G Minor. This cello
sonata, composed in 1901, premiered shortly after Rachmaninoff’s second
piano concerto, and displays many similarities to that work. Professor Kosower
has performed throughout the United States and Europe and has appeared as
a soloist with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
Alexandre Dossin, assistant professor of music, will provide accompaniment
for the recital. Dossin has been a prizewinner at piano competitions in Athens,
Greece; Salzburg, Austria; and Sicily, Italy. He recently won first prize
in the Martha Argerich International Piano Competition in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
