University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Gears Up for Academic Year
It will be a busy week at UW-Eau Claire as faculty, staff and students return to campus for the new academic year. Here are some highlights of events this week:

Tuesday, Aug. 26

• Fall Meeting of the University Faculty and Academic Staff. Schofield Auditorium, 8:30 a.m. State of the University address by Chancellor Donald Mash, including remarks about the impact of state budget cuts at UW-Eau Claire. Presentation of 2003 Excellence Awards to faculty and staff.

Thursday, Aug. 28

• Residence Halls Open for First Year Students.
• Phase II Orientation. This program is an opportunity to welcome new freshmen to UW-Eau Claire and to introduce them more fully to the academic and social aspects of the university before classes start. A welcome picnic featuring the Jim Pullman Band will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the Campus Mall. Convocation, featuring motivational speaker Paul Wesselman will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Zorn Arena. • Community Registration Night. Community members interested in taking classes as special students during the fall 2003 semester are invited to attend. Schofield Hall, 6 to 8 p.m.

Story Idea

Photo Opportunity
CUBEfest (Creating the Ultimate Blugold Experience), 10 days of events to welcome and integrate first-year students to the academic community begins Friday, August 29 at 5:30 p.m. with a picnic in the backyard of Towers Residence Hall. Other activities include special entertainers and concerts, dances, films, fitness activities, athletics events and in-hall activities. Contact Jodi Thesing-Ritter at 836-3630.
