EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music
and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances
the week beginning Monday, Sept. 8. All events are free and open to the public.
Wednesday, Sept. 10:
- UW-Eau Claire alumnus Paul Budde will present a tuba recital
at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. A teacher
and performer, Budde has appeared as a solo artist and with chamber ensembles
such as the Clearwater Brass Quintet, Bellwether Brass Quintet, The Pistons
(Budde’s award-winning collegiate Tuba Quartet) and Smashing Tubas,
as well as with large group ensembles such as the Saint Paul Civic Symphony
and the Lake Wobegon Brass Band. The program will begin with Sonata No. 2
in E-Flat BWV 1031 by J.S. Bach and also will feature compositions by Alexey
Lebedev, Bruce Broughton, Anthony Plog and Johannes Brahms. The recital will
conclude with “The Dancing King” by Jesse Ayers. Pianist Akiko
Hosaki will provide accompaniment. Hosaki has appeared throughout Japan, the
United States, Barbados, Taiwan and Europe as a soloist and collaborator with
singers, instrumentalists and conductors and is co-founder of the Ashgrove
Ensemble.
Sunday, Sept. 14:
- Donald Patterson, professor of music, will present a faculty
piano recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The program will begin with Franz Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor, Op.
164 (D. 547), followed by three pieces by Benjamin Louis-Paul Godard, including
“Le Cavalier Fantastique (Etude Artistique), Op. 42 # 1.” Patterson
also will perform John Cage’s “Bachanale” and Sonate, Op.
95 (1961) by Aram Khachaturian.
