Career Conference to be Held
Oct. 9 at UW-Eau Claire

 MAILED:  Aug. 27, 2003

EAU CLAIRE — Representatives of 120 organizations will be on hand next month during the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s annual Career Information Conference.

The 46th annual Career Conference will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 9 in Zorn Arena. Chippewa Valley, state and regional employers will have representatives in Eau Claire to talk to the estimated 1,500 students who visit the conference each year.

For some students, the Conference provides the opportunity to talk with representatives of companies or organizations about internship opportunities and careers they are considering. For others, especially those close to graduation, it can be a chance to generate a preliminary interview that has the potential to lead to a job offer.

Employers participating in the conference are provided a chance to meet and talk to students and prospective employees in a more informal setting and to let them know what types of skills, abilities and experience they particularly look for and value in their employees.

Career Services and Beta Upsilon Sigma, a co-ed, professional business fraternity sponsor the daylong conference. Students involved in the student accounting society host a pre-conference reception the evening before the event for the College of Business professional student organizations, faculty and employers taking part in the conference. The computer science department also extends invitations to specific employers to attend a continental breakfast the morning of the conference.

The University encourages employers in the Chippewa Valley to participate. The Career Conference is open to currently enrolled students and to UW-Eau Claire alumni. For more information about the conference or how employers can connect with UW-Eau Claire students, call Sharon Becker, career and employment coordinator, Career Services, at (715) 836-5358.
