UW-Eau Claire’s New Instructional Designer
To Offer Seminar to Faculty Aug. 26

 MAILED:  Aug. 20, 2003

EAU CLAIRE — As part of the opening week for faculty and academic staff at UW-Eau Claire, the Network for Excellence in Teaching and the Teaching and Learning Technology Development Center will present a seminar to address instructional design at UW-Eau Claire.

Jonathan Paver, the new instructional designer at the TLTDC, will lead the seminar, “Beginning the Year Right: Instructional Design Comes of Age at UW-Eau Claire,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, in the Hibbard Hall Penthouse.

“It is my hope that any faculty attending this session will begin the process of thinking about how they teach and how they might be able to explore different teaching methods to enhance student learning,” Paver said.

Paver will discuss the definition of instructional design and the work of instructional designers. The seminar also will address the basic assumptions of instructional design and explore the psychological and epistemological foundations of systematic instructional design. Participants will be given the opportunity to work through a course design process that can be used on new or existing courses and Paver will highlight the role the TLTDC plays as a resource in this integration process.

The TLTDC will offer workshops and consultations throughout the 2003-04 academic year for instructors interested in discovering new teaching methods and ways to use technology in the classroom. Paver said he looks at a variety of methods when working with instructors, from suggesting strategies to get students more involved in class to finding different techniques to assess students’ learning.

Paver has provided professional development for faculty since 1998 in the areas of instructional design and technology integration. Prior to joining UW-Eau Claire in June, he was the Web instructional design specialist with the Teaching and Learning Center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Additionally, he has worked as director of training, technology and learning and associate vice president of instructional technology at Triton College in River Grove, Illinois.

For more information please contact Paver at (715) 836-3323 or visit TLTDC.
