Program to Focus on Providing
Culturally Competent Healthcare

 MAILED:  Aug. 1, 2003

EAU CLAIRE - Healthcare and human services professionals face challenges every day in understanding and effectively communicating with Hmong patients and their families.

UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education/Extension will present "Transcultural Health Care: Understanding the Hmong Perspective" at the Great Wolf Lodge and Conference Center in Wisconsin Dells on Friday, Sept. 19.

Dr. Bee Lo, physician and educator, designed this program to provide physicians, nurses, dentists, counselors, clergy, social workers and other professionals with practical information for delivering culturally competent care to their Hmong patients and clients. Topics to be covered include the Hmong world view and decision-making process, traditional support systems and healing practices, Hmong concerns about legal interventions, and cultural rules of etiquette in interpersonal relationships.
