Dean of College of Arts and Sciences Resigns,
Accepts New Position in California

 MAILED:  June 6, 2003

EAU CLAIRE - Dr. Ted Wendt, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, has resigned to return to his academic roots in the California State University system.

Wendt, who joined UW-Eau Claire in July 2000, will become associate vice president for faculty affairs at California State University-Stanislaus. He will serve as the chief personnel officer for faculty and also will supervise the faculty development center, which coordinates professional development programs, ranging from sabbaticals to technology training.

"My wife and I met while we both were teaching in the Cal State system, and we always said if the right opportunity for advancement came along we eventually would love to return to California," Wendt said. "Little did we know 'eventually' would come sooner than either of us expected."

Wendt began his career at California State University-Chico where he rose through the academic ranks to become a tenured professor and administrator.

Provost and Vice Chancellor Ronald Satz accepted Wendt's resignation, effective Aug. 31.

"Given Dean Wendt's extensive experience with personnel matters, he is well-prepared for his new position," Satz said. "We wish him well."

Wendt will continue his duties at UW-Eau Claire through the summer to assist the College of Arts and Sciences with several important activities, including participating in summer orientation, late hiring of faculty for fall semester, departmental program reviews, authoring the college's annual report and participating in summer commencement.

Satz said he will consult with associate deans and department chairs in the College of Arts and Sciences and others before naming an interim dean sometime in the next several weeks.
