Change Your Mind Day
At Fine Arts Center on June 7

 MAILED:  May 23, 2003

EAU CLAIRE - An afternoon of meditation, inspirational talks and music in the Buddhist tradition will take place at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Haas Fine Arts Center from 12:30-5:30 p.m. June 7 at the Change Your Mind Day event.

The university's department of philosophy and religious studies and Eau Claire's Buddhist community will sponsor the event.

Change Your Mind Day began in New York City in 1994 and attracted about 300 people, with that number growing more than 2,000 a year ago. Last year the event was observed in 30 cities, including Eau Claire where 50 people participated.

"You don't have to be a Buddhist to share in the afternoon," said Art Lyons, who is helping coordinate the event. "Change Your Mind Day reflects the simple fact that when we transform our thinking from confusion to wisdom, we create happier lives for ourselves and others."

The event will feature Buddhist meditation and instruction, Dharma talks and related spiritual activities. Dharma teachers at the event include Bev Forsman from the Dharma Field Zen Center in Minneapolis; Dr. Rita Gross, senior teacher with the Shambhala Buddhist Meditation Centers; and Lama Tsultrim Yeshe of the Karma Kagyu tradition. There will be yoga with Eloise Eland and sacred dance with Eleanor Rice and Theresa Schutte.
