Receive Scholarships

EAU CLAIRE - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's School of Education honored 31 student scholarship recipients and two outstanding cooperating teachers at a recognition event Thursday, May 8, in the Dulany Inn of Davies Center. Kelly Prusak, Duluth, Minn., an elementary education major with a double minor in mathematics and music, also was recognized as the School of Education's Outstanding Senior for 2003.

In addition, for the first time, awards were presented to two outstanding area educators who contribute to the education of student teachers by serving as cooperating teachers. Dave Mueller, an instrumental music teacher at Eleva-Strum Middle/High School, and Karen Bejin, a sixth grade teacher at Eau Claire's DeLong Middle School, were the teachers honored through a fund established by Roland and Ruth Rockwell of Madison to honor excellence by cooperating teachers. Roland Rockwell is a former superintendent for the Barron Area School District.

Students who received awards are as follows:

Amy Bill, LaCrosse, received a $1,500 Cora and Louis Slock Memorial Scholarship.

Michelle Bretzel, Greendale, received a $600 Laura Sutherland Memorial Scholarship.

Leah Burgmeier, LaCrescent, Minn., received an $800 Eugene R. and Frances McPhee Scholarship.

Christine Dussault, Sheboygan, received a $100 Marion K. McNamara Scholarship and a $100 Student Wisconsin Education Association Scholarship.

April Folz, Marshfield, received a $350 Lisa Siegenthaler Memorial Scholarship.

Sara Griesmann, Rochester, Minn., received a $600 Axel and Ellen Peterson Memorial Scholarship.

Amanda Gallagher, Neillsville, received a $1,000 Howard O. Johnson Secondary Education Scholarship.

Pauline Gichiru, Thika, Kenya, received a $600 Victor H., Madeline F. and Karen A. King Scholarship.

Dawn Holte, Sheboygan, Heather Lipinski, Thorp, and Sara Strauss, Rochester, Minn., received $1,200 Arnold A. and Eleanor D. Lamberg Teacher Education Scholarships.

Amanda Johnson, Elk River, Minn., received a $500 Hanke Family Scholarship.

Felicity Kilmurray, Galt, Calif./Eau Claire, received a $3,772 Eleanor Eddis Fultz Memorial Scholarship (full tuition and fees).

Matthew Larson, Virginia, Minn., received an $800 Fay Davis Berg Teacher's Scholarship.

Kelly A. McDonald, Wausau, received a $300 Mildred O. Burcalow Memorial Scholarship.

Elizabeth Meyer, Hopkins, Minn., received a $1,000 Theresa Eleanor Williams and HelenMarie Rhoades Scholarship.

Valerie Mumm, Tomah, received a $150 Donald Birr Memorial Scholarship.

Ashley Murray, Minnetonka, Minn., received a $1,000 Mae Bertelson Scholarship.

Amanda Nichols, Dallas, received a $500 White Family Scholarship.

Elizabeth Peters, LaCrosse, received a $250 Grace Brown Dole Elementary Education Scholarship.

Kari Roesler, Chippewa Falls, received a $1,500 F.H. & Gertrude Conway Thompson Scholarship.

Kari Rupnow, Ixonia, received a $2,000 Anna M. White Scholarship.

Ann Salt, Menomonie, received an $800 Maxine Marion Otis Trimberger Scholarship.

Sara Schmeltzer, Neenah, received a $600 Ruth L. Baker Scholarship.

LeeAnn Snyder, Durand, received a $750 Mary Snudden Memorial Scholarship.

Mike Steiner, Marshfield, and Virginia Welle, Prairie Farm, received $1,300 Rakstis Teacher Fund Scholarships.

Jacqueline Tollison, Portage, received a $1,500 Dr. Juanita Sorenson Scholarship.

Jennifer Toomey, Rochester, Minn., and Sara Zwiefelhofer, Chippewa Falls, received $1,000 Sabra J. Yule Memorial Scholarships.

Heidi Williams, Tony, received a $500 Paul and Linda Kuehn Special Education Scholarship.

Through the generosity of alumni, faculty and university friends who have donated gifts to scholarship funds through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Inc., scholarships for School of Education students now total over $32,000.
