Three A Cappella Groups
To Perform at UW-Eau Claire

 MAILED:  April 30, 2003

EAU CLAIRE - A joint concert with three University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire a cappella groups Innocent Men, Girls Night Out and Impromptu will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, in Schofield Auditorium.

Impromptu members are seniors Justin Lundberg, Eau Claire, Kendra Sampson, Cottage Grove, Minn., and Dave Fehr, Eau Claire; junior Jane Schutt, Marinette; and sophomore Tamra Wickesberg, Shawano. Impromptu will warm up the crowd with selections from The Beatles to Garbage before Innocent Men and Girls Night Out take the stage for the rest of the night.

Innocent Men, a smaller, all-male group of Singing Statesmen members, will sing a variety of songs ranging from "Emerson Drive to Billy Joel to Tenacious D to Richard Marx," said senior Joe Rand, Circle Pines, Minn. Other members of the group include juniors Ben White, Eau Claire, Ryan Greenhill, Shawano, and Craig Gumz, Dorchester; sophomore Paul Nikstad, Wausau; and freshman Brad Schaack, Cottage Grove, Minn.

Girls Night Out, an all-female group, will continue the night with their selections from Avril Lavigne to Faith Hill. Girls Night Out group members include senior Michelle Angsten, Waupaca; juniors Jill Blom, Lakeville, Minn., and Anne Verbeten, Neenah; sophomore Nikki Peters, Maplewood, Minn.; and freshmen Loren Grassmann, Rice Lake, and Meg Aspinwall, Madison.

Before the night is over, Innocent Men will team up with Girls Night Out to sing their rendition of "Seasons of Love," a selection from the musical "Rent."

Reserved seating tickets are $5, and Rand said he thinks that's a bargain.

"You get to see three of Eau Claire's finest a cappella groups, and it's cheaper and more entertaining than going to see a movie," Rand said.

Tickets are available at the Service Center in Davies Center or at the door the night of the concert. The National Residence Hall Honorary is sponsoring the concert.
