Dr. L. Elaine Wendt Named
Associate Dean of Nursing

 MAILED:  April 28, 2003

EAU CLAIRE - Dr. L. Elaine Wendt has been named associate dean of the School of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Wendt has been the interim associate dean since July 2002. Provost and Vice Chancellor Ronald Satz announced this week that she will become the associate dean of the School of Nursing July 1.

"Elaine Wendt has a great deal of experience that will benefit the students and faculty within the School of Nursing," Satz said. "Her familiarity with our students and our campus will be a tremendous value as we continue to move our nursing programs forward."

Wendt earned her doctorate from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, her master's at New York University and her bachelor's degree at South Dakota State University.

As associate dean, Wendt will be the chief operating and academic officer/administrator of the School of Nursing, reporting to Mark Clark, dean of the College of Professional Studies. Her responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate programming, enrollment management and student services, grant and contract management, fund raising, continuing education and community outreach.

"I am excited about serving as the associate dean and educational administrator for the School of Nursing," Wendt said of her new appointment. "These are exciting and challenging times for nursing education and health care. UW-Eau Claire's School of Nursing has a history of excellence and the quality of our graduates is recognized nationally. It's an honor to have the opportunity to lead the School during these exciting times."

Wendt first came to UW-Eau Claire in 1969, working as a faculty assistant in community health nursing. She left the university to work as a nurse in New York City, and later returned to Wisconsin to teach at UW-Milwaukee. She then worked in the private sector for several years before returning to UW-Eau Claire in 1979 as an assistant professor.

She then spent several years in Maryland before again returning to UW-Eau Claire. In 1992, Wendt joined the UW-Eau Claire School of Nursing faculty as an associate professor and chair of the family health nursing department. She was promoted to professor in 2001.
